Exteriorlighting seems to get more and more decorative and accentuating with each passing year. However, the fact of the matter is that people still need exteriorlighting for their homes for security purposes. With more break-ins happening on a regular basis and fewer people having the money to install security alarms, lighting is often the only option that they have to discourage burglars from breaking into their homes. When you are going to use exterior home lighting for security reasons, you have to develop a plan to make sure that the lights are exactly where they need to be and that you choose the right lights for the intended use.
Security lights that are motion-activated are nice. They might seem to be a nuisance when you walk past and set them off every time, but when someone else does it, it will usually spook them and cause them to leave. If something as simple as a light can make you feel safer in your own home, what have you got to lose? You should also check into post lights or other types of lights that are out of reach. Anytime you have lights around your home, you have to remember that the intruder will destroy them if they can.
Make sure that all of your exteriorlighting is out of reach, and that you have lights that will stay protected from weapons or other objects. If you have a small home, you won’t need as much exterior home lighting to give your home a safer look, but you should still do something. Larger homes will require a lot more lighting for security purposes, but you shouldn’t discount the execution and effectiveness of well placed exteriorlighting instead of using more lights.
Keep in mind that while making your home secure is important, you can also benefit from using exterior home lighting to make your home look good. Security lights aren’t generic like they used to be. Today’s decorative exteriorlighting can be used for security if you know what you’re looking for. Even simple spotlights, ceiling fixtures, or post lights that are too tall to disable will be effective in deterring thieves from even considering breaking into your home. The bottom line is that you can use exteriorlighting for looks AND protection if you take the time to shop around and see what your options are.
